As one of the newest members of the Genexis team, I had the opportunity to join Genexis at ANGA COM 2025, Europe’s largest fiber broadband conference held in Cologne, Germany. This firsthand experience provided valuable interactions with partners, customers, and the team. These conversations offered insights into what drives the fiber broadband market and how Genexis is meeting our customers’ needs. In conversation with colleagues, Chantal Brouwer and Martijn Rooijakkers shared their reflections on the event.

First and lasting impressions

Although Genexis has been attending ANGA COM for years, experiencing it with fresh eyes gave me a new understanding of how effectively our fiber solutions connect with customers in Germany and nearby regions.

Our booth quickly became a busy spot, attracting visitors from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and even the Nordic countries. What impressed me most was how engaged people were – these weren’t just brief chats, but genuine technical discussions with engineers and business decision-makers who stayed for extended conversations.

As someone new to trade shows, I was impressed by how knowledgeable and genuinely interested the visitors were. It showed that our product development addresses real problems while creating new business opportunities across the dynamic telecom market.

We showcased the world’s first Point-to-Point 2.5G Network Terminals, new Wi-Fi 7 solutions featuring our gateway and mesh extender, as well as new 10G FiberTwist models with CATV support.

LIVE demo to deliver fiber broadband speeds to apartment buildings

Together with our partner Positron, we had a live demo of our multi-dwelling unit (MDU) ONT solution, which provides fiber-like broadband speeds over any legacy apartment wiring — whether coaxial or twisted pair — utilizing Positron’s innovative Gigabit Any Media (GAM) technology.

“Connecting MDUs plays a prominent role in the FTTH market. I came across various passive solutions for rolling out fiber in MDUs, and the Genexis Fiber Extension Kit, which is tailored for efficient fiber rollout in MDUs, drew great interest from different parties,” says Chantal Brouwer, Product Marketing Manager FTTH.

“The fiber market is getting more mature. If I compare the solutions at the show with those from the last few years, there were less new solutions. The focus is shifting from developing the fiber technology and solutions to getting more efficient and addressing different segments (like MDUs or SMEs),” continues Martijn Rooijakkers, Head of Products FTTH. “There is a clear need from operators who want to provide a fiber-like experience in older MDUs with legacy cabling.”

PtP 2.5G Network Terminal for seamless transition to multi-gigabit

We also introduced the world’s first Point-to-Point (PtP) 2.5G Network Terminals (NTs), which utilize Genexis FiberTwist’s do-it-yourself twist mechanism. They provide valuable flexibility to achieve 2.5G speeds with optional CATV for TV services.

“For many German operators, this is their optimal next step when going to higher than 1G. Many German operators still rely on PtP networks and are not yet ready to migrate to PON. The only option to go beyond 1G until the show was to go 10G PtP, which requires a larger infrastructure adjustment. Our new 2.5G PtP solution addresses this gap in the German market and provides the perfect balance between speed, price, and power consumption,” reflects Martijn.

The missing sustainability link

When I asked colleagues about what they would have liked to see more of at ANGA COM, they mentioned sustainability and a future-oriented approach.

“In general, the number of vendors who pay attention to sustainability on their booth is very limited,” comments Chantal. Martijn explains, “What could be highlighted more in a market like DACH, where there is still greenfield deployment, is what the impact of fiber equipment choices today could have in the long term. What factors should you consider when making investment decisions for a fiber rollout? Are the materials from the equipment recyclable? Is it just the cost of the equipment, or should I also consider future (DIY) upgrades, vendor lock-ins, and operational costs of operating the whole network?”

Overall, the event was rewarding on many levels, and I look forward to more in the near future.
