Bram Giesen

Software Engineer

In our employee spotlight series, we invite different employees to share their stories. With a face-to-face interview, we provide you some insight about what their role is and how we work at Genexis.

This employee spotlight is with Bram Giesen. Bram works as Software Engineer and he joined Genexis in April 2021.

How would you summarize what you do?

I work with two teams: the CPE-management team and the UI (user interface) team.

With the CPE-management team, we work on solutions to make our devices work well with the CloudSight management system. And the focus of the UI team is to develop new user interfaces for Genexis. We are currently working on a new gateway user interface, and a new helpdesk for CloudSight. My role is to create software that the user interface can use to communicate with the devices.

What does a typical workday for you look like?

I work two days at the office and two days from home. On each workday, I start with a standup, which is a short meeting with the team to sync what everybody has done the previous day and has planned for the day. The rest of the workday mostly consists of doing software development, with an occasional meeting.

How have you grown professionally compared to when you first joined?

At my former company, they didn’t have many structures. Therefore, I’ve mainly worked individually. Working at Genexis has helped me grow in terms of using Scrum and being cooperative. I’ve learned how to better collaborate with other people on software projects.

What advice would you provide to new graduates who are interested in your field?

I would say to try to get more experience, such as an internship, before graduating. I did that, and it helped me a lot.
